2.7.15, CH: The Blue Flag is "awarded" to those beaches that have an excellent quality. Spain now has achieved with its beautiful beaches a world record. Exactly 578 beaches south of the Pyrenees have been awarded this seal of approval. They impress with their cleanliness and environmental friendliness, which offer tourists and locals optimal beaches with excellent bathing quality.

When awarding the Blue Flag a beach is tested in four criteria: Environmental education and information, water quality, environmental management and safety and services. The Blue Flag is awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education. Since 28 years we find the holiday country Spain at No. 1 on this list. Despite already excellent results in recent years, this year another four beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag. Thus, one finds of the 4000 Blue Flags awarded worldwide, one-sixth in Spain. This in turn means that one fifth provides excellent bathing quality for a relaxing vacation of all beaches in Spain.
